THE SALTGRASS BAND
Hello from
southeast Texas! The Saltgrass Band is based in Lake Jackson,
Texas and has played bluegrass music for many years. They try to
include a mix of traditional and contemporary bluegrass music with
every performance. There is always a gospel song or two and maybe a
couple of funnies during the performance. The group’s latest
recording project, Slow Ride In the Fast Lane,
includes 6 original tunes. Every performance is an event you could
bring your wife, mother, or daughter to without fear of being
embarrassed. They are proud of the fact that their shows are for the
entire family!
The
Saltgrass Band
has been in existence for over 20 years. The current members of the
band are:
Jimmy
Fischer -
banjo, guitar, vocals. Jimmy lives in Lake Jackson, Tx. He
has been in the group about 23 years. His "driving banjo
technique" provides a foot stompin' sound that few can
duplicate. He writes many songs. Just recently, he wrote Stars,
Stripes Tattered and Torn. This is the title song of one of
their CD’s.
John
Brockett -
guitar, vocals. John lives in Magnolia, Tx. and has been with
the group about 18 years. His superb tenor voice will definitely get
your attention, whether the song is an old bluegrass classic or a
mellow gospel tune. John's rhythm guitar playing is terrific. He
knows where the "sweetspot" is on his Martin D-28
Guitar
Jim
Lowery - bass,
vocals. Jim
lives in Spring, Tx. and has been in the group about 12 years. He
sings some lead and also compliments the group with his backup
singing. He does most of the M.C. work. His bass playing holds the
rhythm and is rock solid. He will try to a find jam session while
attending festivals.
Timmy
Fischer-mandolin,
vocals.
Timmy lives in Lake Jackson, Tx. and has played with the group about
3 years. He provides another great vocal as well as some fine guitar
and mandolin picking. He loves to sing and play bluegrass. The band
is using his talents more and more with every performance. You’ll
find him around jam sessions at a festival also. He loves to pick.
The
Saltgrass Band has
made live radio and television performances as well as numerous
personal appearances in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma.
They love getting out and meeting folks. They like to play the music
and have fun on and off the stage.
